About NNSA Innovation Day

The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) is a United States (US) federal agency responsible for safeguarding national security through the military application of unequaled science, technology, engineering, and manufacturing.

NNSA Innovation Day brings together startups, investors, universities, and ecosystem partners for an inside look at the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and its national laboratories, plants, and sites.

Attendees get a front-row seat to learn who NNSA is, what it does, and how to engage in its mission space. Those involved in the NNSA network gain a competitive edge through access to world-class facilities, expertise, and partnerships.

A networking mixer hosted by NNSA and the Foundation for Energy Security and Innovation (FESI) will follow Innovation Day programming. This is a chance to keep the day's conversations going and turn new connections into real relationships.

What is Genesis Mission?

In March 2026, the Department of Energy announced $293 million in funding for the Genesis Mission, a national initiative using AI to address more than 20 science and technology challenges spanning advanced manufacturing, biotechnology, critical materials, nuclear energy, and quantum information science. The funding is open to teams from DOE National Laboratories, industry, and academia, with Phase I awards of $500,000 to $750,000 and Phase II awards of $6 million to $15 million. For AI and semiconductor startups, Genesis Mission alignment is one of the clearest paths into NNSA's innovation ecosystem, and it's a core reason to be in the room at Innovation Day.
